Our Community
Our community is filled with the good things that come to
mind when you think of the South--good, friendly people and
a down-home atmosphere that has a feeling of yesteryear with
Southern hospitality abounding.
But we're modern too, with amenities you won't find in
many small communities, like the Dixie Carter Performing
Arts and Academic Enrichment Center. Thanks to The Dixie
we've had some fine entertainment and a lot of fun in our
town. Dixie Carter is a graduate of Huntingdon High School.
She and her husband, Hal Holbrook, live in nearby
McLemoresville on her family estate.
Our town is also the site of the annual Huntingdon
Heritage Festival which brings throngs of folks from all
around for a fun day of family-oriented activities. The
event takes place at Sesquicentennial Park, one of many fine
parks our town has to offer, like Veterans Park, site of our
annual Relay for Life event (we were number one in the state
and nation per capita in 2005 for money raised to fight
cancer!) and beautiful Thomas Park, where we hold out
Memorial Day service each year.
Kelley Sports Complex, the namesake of Mayor Dale Kelley,
is the site of a lot of summertime fun. Edwards Park is
another site for baseball and playground activities. Under
construction is a 1000-acre lake that promises swimming,
fishing and other water-oriented sports activities as well
as picnicking and sightseeing.
Shopping, dining and other activities are also found in
our fair town. Here are some links to local attractions:
